What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an enthusiastic and versatile Teacher of L4L (Literacy for Life) to join our dynamic team.

L4L is our thematic, knowledge‑rich curriculum at Key Stage 3, designed to develop powerful knowledge, critical thinking and cross‑curricular understanding. Through rich texts, real‑world contexts and carefully sequenced enquiry, L4L provides students with the foundations they need to thrive across the wider curriculum.

What the school offers its staff

An exciting opportunity to join a pioneering curriculum team at an innovative and rapidly growing school.

Shireland CBSO Academy, opened in September 2023, is a unique institution established in partnership with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. As the country’s first state school to open in partnership with an arts organisation, our academy offers an ambitious, creative and inclusive environment where every student’s potential is nurtured and celebrated.

Beyond its academic rigour, L4L offers significant pastoral strengths. Teachers spend extended periods of time with their classes, enabling them to build strong relationships and understand each pupil as an individual. This continuity supports not only students' academic progress but also their personal development and wellbeing, creating a nurturing environment where every child is known and valued. These sustained interactions play a crucial role in easing the transition into secondary school, helping pupils feel settled and confident, and ensuring they are supported both academically and emotionally as they embark on their Key Stage 3 journey.

This role would suit teachers from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds—including Humanities, English, Creative Arts, Social Sciences or other related fields—who are passionate about helping students make meaningful connections between subjects. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or an Early Career Teacher, you will be supported to deliver high‑quality learning within a curriculum that values creativity, high expectations and inclusivity.

You will join a collaborative and ambitious team who are deeply committed to shaping a curriculum that sparks curiosity, supports academic rigour and builds the cultural literacy of all learners. As our school continues to grow, you will play an important role in developing and refining L4L as a cornerstone of our academy identity.

Our school benefits from a vibrant, music‑rich learning community, state‑of‑the‑art facilities, and a culture built on collaboration, inclusion and high aspirations. The Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust offers extensive CPD and innovative digital support systems to help you grow as a professional.
