About the Role
The Internal Governance Lead Officer is an integral part of the Council's Governance Team, taking responsibility for ensuring that the Council's internal governance arrangements are fit for purpose and operate effectively and efficiently to contribute to robust overall governance of the organisation. This will include being responsible for the management, clerking and monitoring delivery of actions arising from a range of meetings; ensuring meetings are well-informed including working closely with colleagues who support formal decision making processes to ensure internal governance dovetails efficiently with formal decision making, scrutiny and audit processes; providing advice on internal governance matters; ensuring councillors and colleagues understand and are able to fulfill their respective roles effectively within the governance framework; and taking proactive action to ensure that internal governance arrangements remain fit for purpose and in line with best practice.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- The ability to build and maintain knowledge of internal governance processes and procedures, and how they relate to the law, the Council's Constitution and formal governance arrangements
- Evidence of excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to be assertive but professional when providing advice and in negotiation
- Evidence of excellent written communication skills in a range of audience appropriate formats and the ability to redraft work prepared by others
- Evidence of working effectively to tight deadlines, prioritising and organising their own workload within the context of frequent interruptions and changes of task
- Evidence of building and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues, councillors and partners, including those at the most senior levels, within a political environment
