About the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Adults Board

The Isle of Wight Safeguarding Adults Board (IWSAB) is a statutory multi-agency partnership responsible for ensuring that adults with care and support needs are protected from abuse and neglect, and that safeguarding arrangements across the Island are effective. The Board provides strategic leadership, promotes learning, and holds partners to account for their safeguarding responsibilities under the Care Act 2014.

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an Independent Scrutineer to provide robust, expert, and independent scrutiny of adult safeguarding arrangements across the Isle of Wight.

This role is pivotal to advancing Island safeguarding, ensuring that safeguarding is not only compliant and well-governed, but demonstrably effective in improving outcomes and experiences for adults at risk. The Scrutineer will bring an authoritative external perspective while rapidly developing (or already holding) a deep understanding of the Island’s distinctive context, including geography, demography, service configuration, and partnership dynamics.

You will work closely with the Board Manager, the Executive Group and partner agencies to provide assurance, challenge, and constructive influence, supporting the Board to fulfil its statutory duties and to maintain a culture of openness, learning and continuous improvement.

What You Will Bring

We are looking for a senior safeguarding leader who:

Provides credible, independent challenge at executive level.
Can translate national learning, inspection themes, and emerging risks into practical, Island-relevant system improvements.
Understands the Isle of Wight’s local context and can ensure safeguarding approaches are realistic, responsive and effective.
Is confident scrutinising how organisations hold one another to account, and how learning is embedded to improve practice and outcomes.
