Job Summary The Communications and Marketing Manager plays a key leadership role in shaping and protecting how Overgate Hospice communicates with supporters, staff, and the wider community. Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing, the postholder will lead the planning and delivery of all communications and marketing activity, ensuring it reflects the Hospices values, demonstrates impact, and supports income generation. The role requires confident leadership of an established and high-performing Communications and Marketing team. The postholder will provide clear direction and consistency, building on the strengths already in place and maintaining a collaborative and respectful team culture. They will uphold high standards across all areas of communications and marketing, encouraging creativity while recognising and protecting practices that are already working well. The Communications and Marketing Manager will hold overall responsibility for brand integrity, ensuring all materials and digital communications are engaging, accurate and aligned with agreed brand guidelines and key messages. They will work closely with the Senior Graphic Designer to maintain a consistent and professional visual identity across all Hospice communications. At an exciting time for the Hospice, as we open our new facilities and introduce a refreshed brand identity, the Communications and Marketing Manager will lead the organisation-wide rollout of the refreshed brand. They will ensure a smooth and professional transition across all sites and channels, embedding the updated brand guidelines and supporting teams to apply them consistently and confidently. In addition, the postholder will provide communications leadership across key organisational priorities, including capital developments and retail operations, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality approach across all sites and teams. Duties and Responsibilities In this role, you will work with the Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing to develop the annual communications and marketing plan, ensuring activity aligns with organisational priorities and effectively engages key stakeholders. You will also lead the planning and production of the bi-annual Hospice newsletter, working with teams across the organisation to source content and coordinating the project through to print and distribution, and lead the production of the Annual Report and Accounts, ensuring it is accurate, high quality and effectively communicates the impact of the Hospice to key audiences. You will develop and deliver an annual press plan, building strong relationships with local and regional media and producing high-quality press releases that showcase the wide range of activity taking place across the Hospice. You will lead communications for key organisational priorities, including the Big Build project, ensuring materials are clear, impactful, and aligned with agreed messaging. You will champion a strong culture of storytelling across the Hospice, ensuring authentic and impactful stories remain central to communications and marketing activity. You will provide guidance and training to colleagues across the Income Generation team to strengthen confidence in storytelling and ensure impact-led messaging is embedded across campaigns, appeals and supporter communications. You will lead the rollout of the refreshed Overgate Hospice brand across all sites and communication channels, developing and delivering a clear implementation plan to ensure consistent adoption of updated brand guidelines and key messages. You will provide practical guidance and support to teams across the organisation to ensure the refreshed brand is embedded confidently and consistently in communications, signage and materials, and you will lead the annual review of the Hospice Brand Guidelines and Key Messages document to ensure they remain relevant and are used consistently across the organisation. You will work with the Head of Workforce to ensure HR documentation aligns with Hospice brand guidelines and key messaging, strengthen internal communications and support the marketing and promotion of job vacancies across the organisation, positioning Overgate Hospice as a great place to work. You will lead the development and ongoing management of the Hospice internal intranet, ensuring content remains relevant, accessible, and regularly reviewed. You will also work with the Communications and Marketing Team and the Head of Workforce to develop an annual communications plan for volunteers, ensuring their contribution and impact are recognised and celebrated. You will line manage and support the Digital Communications and Marketing Officer, ensuring digital communications are high quality, consistent and regularly evaluated, and work together to develop and implement a social media strategy that supports organisational priorities and engages our community. You will line manage and support the Clinical Communications and Marketing Officer to ensure clinical services are communicated clearly and opportunities to share impactful stories are maximised. You will also line manage and support the Non-Clinical Communications and Marketing Officer, ensuring fundraising communications are of the highest standard and provide an excellent supporter experience, and work closely with the Senior Graphic Designer to ensure all design work is engaging, professionally produced, and fully aligned with brand guidelines. You will hold final sign-off responsibility for many communications and marketing materials prior to print or publication, ensuring consistency, accuracy and adherence to brand guidelines and key messages, and you will lead creative briefing meetings across the organisation to support the development of strong, engaging, and consistent communications. You will work with the Estates Team to oversee the development of internal and external signage across the Hospice, ensuring it is professional, consistent, and reflective of the new facilities. You will also conduct regular audits of signage across the organisation to ensure brand consistency and work with teams to implement improvements where required. You will work closely with the Head of Retail and the Non-Clinical Communications and Marketing Officer to ensure brand guidelines are applied consistently across retail sites and charity shops and provide marketing support to help increase retail income. You will plan and manage time and budgets effectively, maintaining accurate records of marketing expenditure. You will stay up to date with developments in charity communications and marketing, ensuring activity complies with relevant legislation and sector guidance, including the Charities Act and Fundraising Regulator codes of practice. You will deputise for the Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing when required and undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by your line manager. Communications and Marketing Team Duties & Responsibilities As a member of the Communications and Marketing Team, you will contribute to delivering high-quality communications that support the work of the Hospice and strengthen our connection with the local community. All team members share responsibility for ensuring communications and marketing materials adhere to the Hospices brand guidelines and promote and protect the Overgate Hospice brand in both internal and external communications. This includes producing engaging content across a range of platforms, including print, web and social media, and supporting the promotion of Hospice events, campaigns, and activities. Members of the team are expected to attend selected large-scale fundraising events, working collaboratively to help deliver an excellent experience for supporters. This includes providing on-the-ground communications and marketing support and identifying opportunities to engage the community and share the impact of the Hospices work. The team works within an agreed annual budget and is responsible for ensuring communications and marketing activity is delivered efficiently and cost effectively. This includes maintaining accurate information within the Hospice database and ensuring processes relating to supporter data and communication preferences are followed appropriately. Monitoring and evaluation are an important part of the teams work. Staff are expected to track and report on the effectiveness of communications and marketing activity, using data and insights to inform future campaigns and improve ongoing work. All team members are expected to communicate with stakeholders in a clear, compassionate, and professional manner, recognising that we regularly engage with patients, families, donors, volunteers, and members of the community. Team members must ensure that communications and marketing activity complies with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements and should remain informed about best practice and developments within the sector. Collaboration is key to how the team operates. Staff are expected to work closely with colleagues across the Hospice, sharing knowledge and skills and contributing positively to the wider Income Generation Team. All team members are encouraged to pursue continuous learning and professional development, seek feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation within the team.
