Crynodeb

In relation to this post, the Leeds Centre for Newborn Care was created in 1998 with the merger of the two acute trusts. The service comprises one level 3 unit (NICU) at LGI and a combined low dependency comprising SCBU and Transitional Care at SJUH, each attached to a busy delivery suite. The neonatal service is one of the busiest in the country with 1700 admissions per year, providing 4000 intensive care days and a further 4200 high dependency care days per year. There are approximately 10,000 deliveries across the two sites. Currently both sites are covered by a single consultant over the weekend, from 1700 on Friday until 0830 Monday, and is split into 24 hour on-calls between two consultants. The advertised post is part of an expansion of the consultant team in order to provide dedicated, separate on call cover to both sites. 2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST To provide weekday consultant cover and weeknight on call (1 in 6 alternating site) to the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Leeds General Infirmary and the Local Neonatal Unit at St Jamess Hospital. To provide weekend consultant led care to the two regional neonatal units within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (1 in 6 weekends). To provide, in conjunction with the existing consultants, supervision of neonatal care on the NICU, postnatal and transitional care wards. This will require working on both neonatal units by rotation. To assist in delivering the induction and training programme for junior doctors. To contribute to the effective training and clinical supervision of medical staff within the neonatal service. To liaise with the neonatal outreach team and community paediatic team provide planned discharge and follow up of neonatal graduates.
