We need a strategic, proactive and collaborative Major Projects Senior Advisor. Acting as a single point of contact for developers and key partners, you will ensure a smooth end-to-end process across planning, permitting and project delivery.
Overseeing several major projects, you'll provide clarity and coordination, improve customer experience, and streamline input across Environment Agency functions and Defra Arms Length Bodies to increase certainty. These projects are likely to include Lead Environmental Regulator pilots, where you will collaborate with Defra ALBs to resolve issues, support governance processes and contribute to evaluation.
The role also involves developing Service Level Agreements, supporting cost recovery, and driving a One Team approach to sustainable growth and environmental protection. You'll help ensure that limited technical resources are deployed effectively and in line with organisational priorities.
As a leader, you will shape a culture that supports the government’s growth agenda while upholding our responsibility to protect/enhance the environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage relationships with developers and stakeholders, including SLAs and engagement rhythms.
• Provide proactive environmental leadership, identifying needs early/resolving tensions.
• Influence developers to embed nature positive/climate resilient design beyond minimum compliance.
• Lead programme and project delivery, including risk, governance and reporting.
• Coordinate technical resources through forward planning.
• Strengthen internal culture, communication and organisational effectiveness.
• Embed equality, diversity and inclusion in all activities.
• Champion continuous improvement through customer insight.
The team
You’ll join our Growth and Infrastructure team part of the Growth, Permitting and Monitoring portfolio in Operations. It includes the National Infrastructure team and supports Area Operations teams by driving operational improvements, strengthening risk and assurance, and enhancing performance reporting. The team is led by Helen Todd, Deputy Director.
We’re a dispersed team and work with a wide range of technical and project teams across the country to support the organisation’s strategic goals.
Experience/skills required
