As a Shift Driver in our Defence team, you’ll play a key part in keeping people moving safely and reliably from RAF Alconbury. Your work helps ensure passengers reach their destinations comfortably and on time, supporting a service that touches lives every day.
You’ll contribute to a smooth-running transport operation that supports essential daily movement across the site to various destinations. With a focus on service, safety, and care for the vehicles in your remit, you’ll help create a positive experience for every customer while supporting a team that takes pride in delivering dependable solutions.
What you’ll do as a Shift Driver
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Safely transport passengers between designated locations, ensuring timely arrivals and departures
- Work a 5‑day week within a 7‑day shift pattern, including two weekends in every eight
- Carry out a range of yard duties when driving tasks are not required
- Maintain vehicles to a suitable standard by cleaning, washing, and reporting any mechanical or technical issues
- Deliver excellent customer service with strong interpersonal skills
- Support other contracted areas when needed, with training provided
- Ensure the safe operation of customer vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Undertake any other duties required by the Vehicle Operations Supervisor or Site Manager

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
· Be SC cleared or have no issues obtaining one
- A clean PCV driving licence
- A current Driver CPC card
- Experience of regular driving commitments
- The ability to communicate politely and confidently with customers
- The capability to work well as part of a team and lift heavy items
- Class 1 license (desirable)
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
