Job Title: IT Specialist
Work Hours Per Week 37.5
As Information Technology (IT) Specialist for the 423rd Force Support Squadron, you will be responsible for the strategic planning and management of our complete IT landscape. This includes overseeing all network architecture, infrastructure, and mission-critical systems. You will develop and implement IT policies and standards while managing the FSS NET, NAF business, commercial, and base networks. Your role will be crucial in providing systems administration, security, and customer support for all application software and operating systems.
Qualifications:
COMPTIA Security+ certification in addition to one-year's specialized experience in the Key Skills listed below, and be able to perform the duties of the role:
Key Skills required for this role
1. Knowledge of web design, coding, and maintenance, gained through extensive study or experience, is essential for applying these skills to difficult and complex work assignments.
2. Expert in managing network hardware and architecture, including firewalls, routers, and servers, with advanced knowledge of LAN technologies for effective troubleshooting and problem resolution.
3. Skilled in using in-depth knowledge of computer hardware, software, and diagnostic methods to identify and resolve system failures, implement corrective actions, and restore normal operations.
4. Proficient in a variety of computer systems, networks, and software to effectively install, test, configure, and maintain hardware and software functionality.
5. Skill in researching potential sources of computer equipment, peripherals, and software, and knowledge of and experience in applying regulations for the procurement of IT equipment and software.
6. Skill in computer programming languages – Visual Basic, ASP.net, and ADO.net architecture.
7. Knowledge of web based database interaction using Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Access.
8. Knowledge of Information System Security, network configuration, and operating system support to effectively manage computer security and network encryption systems.
9. Proficient in standard operating systems and office productivity software to effectively train users, manage workstations, and troubleshoot technical issues.
10. Knowledge of, or ability to be trained, in retail Point of Sales systems and Payment Card Industry Standards.
11. Skill in troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving problems with information systems equipment in the organization to include personal computers, network connections, a variety of printers and other peripherals, modems, terminals and system file servers.
12. Skilled in training users on software, security, and hardware, with the ability to define problem areas, conduct market research, and present findings to management.
13. Ability to self-motivate to work alone and without assistance on all areas under your responsibility.

Conditions of employment for this role
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
3. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
4. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
5. Hours of work: 37.5 hours weekly. Fixed schedule: Mon-Fri 0800-1630. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
6. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
7. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
8. You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
9. You will manage the Telephone Control program in accordance with Air Force Instruction and local policies.
10. You will be required to have a COMPTIA Security + certification.
11. You will use Visual Basic.NET, C# and C++ to program and develop web-pages.
12. Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance work as a paramount duty requirement. You must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
13. You will work on various software and systems.
14. You will budget for IT Hardware and Software and will determine sources for purchases, and apply procurement procedures in accordance with funding source.
15. The work requires you to drive a motor vehicle. A valid UK driver's license (Category B) is required.
16. Duties are performed at RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth, as required/scheduled.
NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK.
