Crynodeb
We are seeking an experienced and strategic senior nurse leader to join the Corporate Nursing Team as Nurse Consultant for Older People – this is a Trust wide post, Band 8B on a 0.6 WTE permanent contract, working as a job share with the existing post holder. There is an expectation that the postholder will travel across Trust services, Bedfordshire and London.
Reporting to the Director of Nursing and accountable to the Chief Nurse, the Nurse Consultant will provide clinical, educational and research leadership in the area of Older adult mental health care. The purpose of the role will be to a) transform older adults care and experience, b) provide a clinical expert resource, c) deliver contemporary and evidence based educational provision, d) promote a positive learning environment for Registered and student nurses and inform and influence research activities in the area of long term conditions. The post holder will also promote and support clinical academic opportunities within education and research.
This role offers the opportunity to influence strategy, governance and quality improvement at organisational and system level.

Essential criteria
· Registered General or Mental health nurse with current NMC registration
Masters level with a commitment to work towards a research degree
• Independent prescriber
• Teaching qualification recognised by the NMC
• Significant senior management experience
• Experience working within a mental health setting at a senior nurse level
• Extensive and expert knowledge and experience of health, nursing and psychosocial needs of older adults
• Experience leading service transformation
• Experience of working in Higher Education, developing and delivering academic modules or programmes.
• Experience of working across inter-agency and organisational boundaries at both local and national level
• Experience of presenting clinical practice and research at a local /national
• Strong governance, audit and quality improvement knowledge
• Excellent communication and influencing skills
