This role focuses on fostering cultural engagement and development across our venues, overseeing both commercial and community events. Responsibilities include managing cinema, theatre, arts programs, and galleries, as well as handling commercial sales, venue hires, weddings, and corporate events.

About the role
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate the day-to-day operation of Penarth Pier Pavilion and potential other cultural venues, ensuring effective management practices and compliance with relevant legislation.
Actively participate in the delivery and operation of events, bookings and activities across the Libraries and Cultural Services, including the Pavilion and other cultural venues in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Operate the venues ensuring commercial viability and long-term sustainability through effective management and innovative programming with the Libraries and Cultural Services Manager, working with departments across the council and with our external stakeholders and commercial partners.
Lead on the creation and development of an annual and seasonal programme of events, increasing footfall, generating ticket sales, and establishing high-quality Cultural Settings
Establish and cultivate strong professional relationships and partnerships with stakeholders, leaders, external partners, performers, producers, and other cultural organisations to deliver a varied programme of events and exhibitions.
Oversee and maintain Box Office and Audience Management Systems to ensure smooth operation of events and bookings, ensuring robust processes against policies, procedures and reporting.
Maintain administrative processes to support the smooth operation of venues and events, which could include performances, room hires, weddings, and corporate bookings.
Monitor performance data, ticket sales, and visitor numbers to ensure programming is aligned with audience demand and financial sustainability.
Regularly create reports on sales, net income, cultural spend and engagement, developed to inform discussion within the directorate management team, senior leadership and relevant cabinet scrutiny committees.
Establish and provide event technical requirements, including stage setups, lighting, sound, and AV presentation equipment, to support the successful delivery of high-quality .
Support the Library and Cultural Services Volunteering Programme, providing placements and opportunities that support careers development, service success and widening of participation.
About you
Proven experience in managing cultural or community venues, theatres, galleries, or event spaces.

Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering cultural events, programming, and audience engagement initiatives.
Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and income generation strategies within the cultural sector.
Experience in working with internal and external stakeholders, partners, and the public to deliver high-quality cultural experiences.


Strong knowledge of arts and cultural programming, including cinema, theatre, exhibitions, and community events.
Understanding of commercial venue operations, including venue hires, corporate bookings, and private events.
Awareness of current trends in cultural engagement and placemaking strategies.
Understanding of statutory health and safety regulations for public venues and event management.
Ability to produce reports on sales, visitor numbers, and financial performance for senior leadership.


Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to inspire and coordinate teams.
Strong marketing and promotional skills, including experience with digital and social media platforms.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to engage with a diverse audience.
Technical working knowledge of event production, including AV, lighting, and stage setups.




A relevant degree (e.g., Arts Management, Cultural Studies, Event Management, Business Administration) or equivalent experience in a related field.


Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
Passionate about the role of cultural venues in community engagement and economic development.


Ability to drive / travel throughout the Vale of Glamorgan.
