Summary
We are seeking an experienced and technical Temporary Works Designer to join
our Construction engineering team full time on Sellafield Site.
You will be responsible for providing safe, innovative, and cost-effective temporary structures that enable the successful delivery of complex construction and infrastructure projects. This role bridges the gap between design theory and practical site application, requiring close collaboration with site-based teams and permanent works designers.
This role will need SC Clearance.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design & Calculation:
Develop detailed designs and structural calculations for temporary works, including formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping, and excavation support. Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to BS 5975:2019,2024 and CDM Regulations 2015.
Safety & Risk:
Conduct thorough Design Risk Assessments (DRA) to identify and mitigate residual risks during construction, use, and dismantling.
Stakeholder Liaison:
Work closely with the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) to interpret design briefs and communicate critical design intent to site teams.
Verification:
Perform independent design checks (Cat 1, 2, or 3) on both internal and subcontractor-provided designs.
Site Support:
Undertake site visits to assess specific ground conditions or reactive situations that require rapid engineering solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
Preferably a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the ICE or IStructE.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, or structural analysis tools like STAAD. Pro.
Industry Knowledge:
Proven experience in temporary works design within the UK construction sector.
Safety Training:
Possession of a valid CSCS card completion of a CITB Temporary Works Designer/Coordinator course is highly desirable.
