Ready to impact a better future? As a Forensic Psychologist in Training within our Psychological Services team, you’ll help deliver meaningful interventions and assessments that support safer, more positive outcomes for people in custody. You’ll be contributing to essential work that has a direct impact on individuals, communities, and wider society.
You’ll join a multidisciplinary team within this Category B prison, delivering high‑quality psychological services under the supervision of a Chartered Forensic Psychologist. Your work will support rehabilitation, reduce risk, and help create safer, more positive futures for those in our care.
What you’ll do as a Forensic Psychologist in Training You’ll be entrusted to:
- Complete psychological assessments including HCR‑20, SARA and WAIS‑IV after training and under supervision.
- Deliver relevant psychological interventions one‑to‑one or in group settings.
- Contribute psychological insight and support to Safer Custody procedures.
- Complete risk assessments and psychological reports for the Parole Board or Risk Management Team.
- Support and contribute to research activity within the prison.
- Provide consultancy and psychological advice to colleagues.
- Develop and deliver training to colleagues across the establishment.
- Make progress toward qualification leading to HCPC registration or Chartered status.
Does this sound like you? You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- Completed Stage 1 of the BPS Qualification or an MSc in Forensic Psychology (BPS‑approved).
- Experience delivering accredited interventions.
- Experience working in forensic settings.
- Strong written, verbal, and IT communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organisation, problem‑solving, and self‑management skills.
- The ability to reflect, seek feedback, and continuously improve.
- The resilience and professionalism to maintain appropriate boundaries.
Vetting and checks: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
