Summary
Rate: £12.60 per hour
Hours: 3-4 hours a week on either a Saturday or Sunday
Area: York
About the role:
Frank is a friendly and active 14-year-old who loves getting out and about in the community. He particularly enjoys visiting shops that sell balls, spending time in parks and practicing his basketball skills — he is very good at shooting hoops, and this is a big interest of his. He loves going out for coffee, cake or lunch, and enjoys family-friendly cafés, Greggs and local pubs (but not fast-food restaurants). He is naturally a very good-natured person; he is kind, caring and respectful. He can have some difficulties which are mainly caused by sensory needs, despite this though he is a very easy-going person.
Frank is fully verbal and able to express his needs; however, his language is not the same as a typically developing 14-year-old and he can find two-way conversation challenging at times. When talking, he requires processing time, shortened instructions and support to make choices.
Main duties:
Go with him to the park, always ensuring his safety
Assist him to go to different restaurants but NOT fast food!
Play basketball with him and help him if he requires it
Help him to improve his conversational skills
Listen to the radio with him, particularly modern pop stations
Assist him to cross the road and when in car parks as he struggles with this due to his learning difficulties
You’ll also provide emotional reassurance when needed and work closely with the family to deliver consistent, person-centred support.
There is no personal care required.
For more information, please see the Job Description
This vacancy will close as soon as a suitable candidate is appointed.
At the time of starting their employment, the successful candidate must have permission to work in the U.K.
