The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Night Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly and supportive team at a busy 24-hour veterinary hospital in Liverpool on a fixed-term maternity cover contract.
This role is ideal for a Veterinary Surgeon seeking excellent work-life balance, offering a 7 nights on, 21 nights off rota, working just 7 nights per month while remaining fully involved in a thriving emergency and critical care environment.

The successful candidate will be an RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with a few years of clinical experience and a strong interest in emergency and critical care (ECC). They will demonstrate a client-focused approach, excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative clinical team.

Role Responsibilities

The Night Veterinary Surgeon will:
• Deliver exceptional clinical care during consultations, diagnostics and procedures.
• Provide clear and compassionate communication to clients, keeping them informed about their pet’s condition and treatment.
• Maintain the highest clinical, professional and regulatory standards.
• Create accurate and tailored treatment plans, including clear cost estimates.
• Support and mentor colleagues, contributing to a positive and progressive clinical culture.
• Conduct thorough clinical handovers and arrange transfer of patients requiring ongoing or enhanced care.

Skills & Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:
• RCVS registration as a Veterinary Surgeon
• Several years of small animal clinical experience
• Experience delivering high standards of patient and client care
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• The ability to demonstrate clinical leadership
• Experience supporting nurse consults and Schedule 3 procedures
• A passion for continuous improvement and progressive clinical standards
• The ability to coach and influence colleagues positively

About the Practice

The successful candidate will join a busy, well-equipped RCVS-accredited Small Animal Hospital providing comprehensive veterinary services, including:
• 24-hour emergency veterinary care
• 24-hour intensive care
• CT imaging
• Dentistry
• ECG diagnostics
• Endoscopy
• In-house laboratory
• Orthopaedic theatre
• Ultrasound
• Digital X-ray

The hospital features separate cat waiting areas and operating theatres, ensuring a calm and stress-reduced environment for feline patients.

You will be working alongside an experienced and supportive clinical team, including veterinary surgeons holding certificates in Advanced Veterinary Practice and Surgery, providing excellent opportunities for learning, collaboration and professional development.
