Crynodeb
To support students aged 11-19 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in accessing a broad, inclusive, and balanced curriculum. The SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to provide tailored academic, emotional, behavioural, and social support, helping students to reach their full potential both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities Student Support- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with a range of SEN including Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, and physical needs
- Support students within mainstream classrooms or specialist SEN provisions
- Assist teachers in adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual student needs
- Encourage students to develop confidence, independence, and resilience
- Promote inclusion and ensure all students feel supported in school life
- Support students with literacy, numeracy, and subject-based learning tasks
- Reinforce teacher instructions and help students understand learning objectives
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Support pupils during assessments or exams where appropriate
- Encourage active participation in lessons and school activities
- Implement behaviour support strategies in line with the school's behaviour policy
- Support students in developing emotional regulation and positive social skills
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
- Build positive relationships with students to support engagement and wellbeing
- Provide support with personal care needs, including mobility, toileting, or feeding where necessary
- Ensure all care is delivered with dignity, respect, and safeguarding in mind
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff, and external professionals
- Contribute to the implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and SEN review meetings
- Communicate effectively with staff and parents/carers when required
- Experience working with young people aged 11-19
- Understanding of Special Educational Needs and inclusive education
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, supportive, and resilient approach
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of EHCP processes
- Training in safeguarding, behaviour management, or first aid
