Summary
An established and growing construction contractor is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager or Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their senior leadership team.
The business delivers a diverse portfolio of refurbishment and construction projects across the housing, education and commercial sectors, with project values typically ranging from £500k specialist packages through to £10m+ schemes.
This is a key appointment within the business, offering the opportunity to lead the commercial function, influence strategy and support the continued growth of the company.
Commercial Manager Job Description:
Working closely with the Managing Director and operational leadership team, you will take responsibility for the overall commercial performance of the business, ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong commercial discipline.
You will oversee projects from tender through to final account, while mentoring and supporting the wider commercial team.
Commercial Manager Duties:
•
Leading and developing the Quantity Surveying / Commercial team
•
Overseeing the commercial performance of multiple live projects
•
Managing or supporting tenders and pricing strategy
•
Reviewing and approving valuations, CVRs and final accounts
•
Managing margin forecasting and cashflow
•
Implementing clear commercial reporting and controls
•
Identifying and managing commercial risks across the project portfolio
You may also continue to manage your own key projects depending on experience and team structure.

Commercial Manager Criteria:
We are keen to speak with candidates who combine strong commercial awareness with leadership capability.
You are likely to have:
•
Experience working as a Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
•
A strong understanding of JCT forms of contract
•
Experience managing project margins, cost control and risk
•
The ability to lead, mentor and develop commercial teams
•
A structured and disciplined approach to reporting and commercial management
This role would also suit an experienced Managing Surveyor or Senior QS looking to step into a broader leadership position.
