About the role…
Due to continued growth, we’re looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a key role in driving the commercial performance of the business unit. In this role, you’ll support the development, implementation and management of all commercial activities and controls, ensuring the group commercial strategy is effectively delivered. You will track contract performance against budgets and forecasts, contributing to accurate financial reporting through structured reviews, while ensuring full adherence to procurement processes.
You’ll also provide insightful commercial support to the Managing Director, offering analysis and guidance to inform decision‑making. Ultimately, your work will maximise profitability across the business unit while upholding Ipsum’s core values of Safety, Service and Specialist expertise.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor you will…
Act as the principal commercial contact for the South, leading contract and project performance, including CVR reviews.
Manage monthly applications, ensuring accurate measurement, submission, follow‑up, and minimising aged WIP.
Ensure all works meet framework contract requirements and support operational teams through site visits and issue resolution.
Oversee subcontractor management, including applications, payments, onboarding, and documentation review.
Manage project changes, variations, notices, early warnings, and EOT requests while maximising value through challenge and commercial insight.
Support the Head of Commercial with process improvements, tenders, pricing, and key client meetings.
Lead and develop direct reports to strengthen commercial capability within the team.
About you…
You will be someone who is committed to driving outstanding Health, Safety and Environmental performance while delivering exceptional service every day. With a natural desire to add value, innovate, and continuously improve, you bring a strong commercial mindset and a proven track record of managing contracts and financial performance at an appropriate level. You can quickly identify changes or potential issues within contracts, challenge performance confidently at all levels, and provide clear commercial guidance to colleagues. Your approach is methodical and logical, with the ability to interrogate data, legal sources and trends while maintaining accurate records and audit trails.
You’ll ideally have experience within the utilities sector or a complex, multi‑divisional organisation, supported by up‑to‑date knowledge of contractual law and commercial practice—NEC experience would be beneficial. You will also hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification and bring demonstrable experience in a similar QS or SQS role, including the management and development of direct reports. Above all, you pursue high standards, recognise opportunities for improvement, and are committed to learning from experience to deliver the best commercial outcomes.
