To ensure the physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs of the patient (and significant others) are met To update and maintain patients notes To be aware of and demonstrate best practice based on current advances in nursing To ensure the maintenance of high standards of patient care To ensure the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness To provide an environment that enables the nursing team to challenge all aspects of patient care and is patient focused To provide highly specialist clinical advice in relation to care and develop specialist programmes of care and carepackages. To monitor the work of the nursing team in their delivery of patient care To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care within their team To promote, undertake, participate and assist in the co-ordination of audit activity. To contribute to the development and delivery of the corporate nursing agenda. To undertake specialist assessment, be involved in complex risk management and safeguarding issues To act as a Nurse Prescriber, taking responsibility for prescribing in line with the Nurse Prescribing Formulary and HealthBoard Policies and GuidelinesManagerial To provide clinical management of their team consisting of registered and healthcare support workers To take responsibility for the selection, appointment and retention of the nursing team To operationally manage staff attendance, sickness, off duty, annual leave, travel and disciplinary and grievance issues inthe absence of the operation lead To ensure that all staff practice within the framework provided by Health Board Policies, Procedures and Guidelines andthose laid down by nurslings regulatory body. To participate in incident reviews and quality audits for service improvement To maintain up to date records of all staff members attendance at statutory / mandatory training and to maintain a database of NMC Personal Identification Numbers To plan the delivery of specialist nursing care and prioritise and adjust the work of the team to ensure service provision. Assist the Senior Nurse for continuing care control the allocated budget, monitoring spend to ensure the most appropriate,efficient and effective service is provided within the resources available. To be aware of and participate in the delivery of the Divisional Governance Agenda To contribute to the production of workforce planning To facilitate staff development and undertake regular staff reviews, ensuring all staff have personal development plans Contribute to the interpretation and implementation of National standards & frameworks locally relevant to Mental HealthServices. To foster a continuous service improvement ethos, challenging traditional methods of core delivery, managing innovationand appropriate change within the nursing team To foster positive, collegial relationships with members of the multidisciplinary / Multi-Agency teams To take responsibility for ensuring that all equipment is maintained and kept in full working condition and that staff areconversant with and competent in its use. To ensure safe and effective staffing levels, planning effective duty rotas appropriately To ensure that the Senior Nurse is kept abreast of affairs, progress and developments To participate in a rotational programme of covering for the Senior Nurse To participate in an on-call rota. To actively participate in risk management and clinical governance relating to the teams practice To contribute to policy development and changes in practice including those that may impact on other areas. To build professional bridges between primary, secondary care and work closely with other providers of community mentalhealth services To undertake investigating officer role to review complaints and incidentsEducational To demonstrate a continuous process of attaining educational, research, clinical and leadership skills To foster enquiry and where appropriate undertake research To ensure a training needs analysis is completed annually, thereby guaranteeing fair and equitable opportunities for allstaff To assist in the evaluation of study leave, ensuring application of new skills in practice.
