A specialist SEND school in Rochdale is currently looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), learning difficulties, and communication needs within a structured and supportive school environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people and helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in education and beyond.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to support pupils both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
Students within the provision may have a variety of needs including ASC, moderate to complex learning difficulties, communication challenges, and SEMH needs.
Your role will focus on providing consistent support that helps pupils feel safe, engaged, and able to access learning in a positive way.
We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, and genuinely passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs. The successful candidate will have:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or complex needs (education or care settings)
- Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
- A calm, nurturing, and patient approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A willingness to support personal care when required
- A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential
Experience working with secondary-aged pupils or within specialist provisions would be advantageous.
- Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
- Support pupils with classroom activities and learning tasks
- Assist teachers in implementing EHCP targets and learning strategies
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Support communication, social development, and independence
- Assist with personal care needs where required
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
- A supportive and welcoming specialist SEND environment
- Access to specialist resources and teaching approaches
- Opportunities for training and professional development
- A collaborative and experienced staff team
