St. Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns based at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford is one of the biggest regional specialist Plastic Surgery units in the UK, with 34 Consultant Plastic Surgeons and over 50 trainees. The unit offers exposure and training across the broad spectrum of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The unit is a well-recognised centre for advanced training in Head & Neck cancer reconstruction and is one of the few plastic surgery units in the UK where free flap reconstruction for H&N cancer is still performed by Plastic Surgeons. It is also a centre of excellence for the management of Facial Palsy and Adult Craniofacial Surgery.

The unit provides a regional Burns, Hand, and Lower Limb Trauma service to the whole of Essex and the North London region. The Unit is one of the busiest microsurgical breast reconstruction services in Europe.

These posts have a great training value and have prospective approval by the SAC for UK trainees to be able to count towards their CCT. Preference will be given to applicants nearing the end of their training.

The H&N Fellowship is for Senior Trainees who are expected to participate actively in running service commitments at a senior level and be 2nd on-call on a rotating basis for all Plastic Surgery Trauma.

You must have full GMC with a licence to practice and have completed your basic training in Plastic Surgery. You will be required to cover general plastic surgery across the Mid-Essex region.

You are expected to be involved in the running of the H&N service within an MDT, working closely with OMFS, ENT, Oculoplastics, Neurosurgery, GI and Cardiothoracics.

The majority of H&N reconstructions involve microsurgery, therefore previous experience of microsurgery is essential.

You will have access to a wealth of clinical material in Plastic Surgery for research and will be encouraged to develop links with academic departments in the region.

You will undertake to update your knowledge and skills and to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development at the Annual Appraisal.

You will be required to be co-operative and flexible in accordance with the needs of the service.

The above is an outline only; it is not exhaustive and may be altered in line with the needs of the service.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.

Are you looking for an exciting new role using your unique qualities, then we want to hear from you.

For full details about this varied and rewarding role, please see attached job description.

We look forward to your application.
