Location: Blackfriars, London - Hybrid working with site travel
Contract: 3 Months rolling
Rate: £500 - £556 per day (Umbrella) or £363.52 - £399.88 per day (PAYE)
Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workforce Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to support a major works delivery programme within the rail infrastructure sector. This role will provide professional health, safety and environmental guidance to senior programme leadership while helping to ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards, and internal management systems.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, supporting investigations, monitoring compliance, and contributing to continuous improvement across operational environments.
Working Arrangements

Based in Blackfriars, London

Approximately 3 days per week in the office

Regular travel to operational sites is required (travel expenses covered)
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide health, safety and environmental guidance to programme leadership and delivery teams

Assist with the collection, review and analysis of workforce HSE performance data

Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental management systems

Support the delivery of safety improvement programmes and initiatives

Assist with accident and incident investigations, including formal reporting processes

Coordinate safety tours and workforce monitoring activities
-
Identify operational risks and recommend appropriate control measures

Support the development and awareness of workforce health, safety and environmental practices within the team

Analyse trends in safety performance and recommend corrective actions

Monitor progress against audit findings, non-conformance reports and safety improvement plans

Support engagement with external safety and environmental bodies where required
Essential Requirements

Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) at Technical level (TechIOSH) or above

Strong understanding of health and safety management systems within infrastructure or rail environments

Knowledge of environmental management systems and regulatory compliance

Experience with maintenance processes and operational safety practices

Familiarity with incident investigation procedures and reporting techniques

Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable Experience
-
Experience working within an operational railway environment

Environmental qualification such as an Institute of Environmental Management Award (IEMA)
Additional Information

Safety critical role requiring Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification from day one

DBS check required

Hybrid working with site visits as required
