We are excited to advertise for 1 Trust Doctor post within General Surgery at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. They are intended to provide surgical experience for successful candidates and to prepare them for successful application onto a Core Surgical Training (CST) or Specialty Training (ST3) position in a national training scheme. The posts are ideal for junior surgeons who have completed FY2 training and wish to gain experience prior to CST application or for those who have completed CT2 training and wish to gain experience prior to ST3 application.
This is a Full-Time post providing with basic hours of 40 hours per week, but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and rotas will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.
Trust Doctors will be expected to participate in ward rounds, clinics and operating theatres where appropriate. The postholder accepts that s/he will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with senior colleagues.
A wide range of practical procedures are undertaken in the Trust which the successfully appointed candidates will have an opportunity to learn. The post-holder is strongly encouraged to complete regular work-based placed assessments to document evidence of their personal and professional development.

Each post will be available with a rotational component and will aim to provide two 6-month placements in surgical specialties that are preferred by successful candidates or one 12 month placement, this will be determined by the divisional team. Rotations are available in general surgery (colorectal, upper GI and bariatric) and urology. Placements will be allocated in order of preference and availability at time of appointment. As such, these posts are suitable for any junior surgeon who wishes to develop experience in core training specialties or who wishes to gain further experience in a dedicated specialty. In addition, there are a number of research and academic opportunities available for successful candidates.
