Would by Hybrid with mixture of office presence, but not fully remote.


Information Governance Officer (Temporary)



Reports to: Interim Head of Information Governance (DPO)

Purpose of the Role: To provide professional Information Governance support across the organisation, including SAR and FOI processing, peer review and quality assurance, information risk management, and advisory work. The role will also support DPIA reviews, minor data breach assessments, and contribute to improving records management standards across the Council.



Key Responsibilities

Operational IG Casework

Lead on or support SAR and FOI processing, including complex redactions and response coordination.

Conduct peer reviews of redaction work completed by Information Access Officers or other staff.

Provide advice to services on the application of exemptions, redaction standards, and IG best practice.



Information Risk & Compliance



Review Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and provide clear recommendations to services.

Support the assessment, logging, and investigation of minor data breaches, escalating concerns appropriately.

Contribute to IG audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks across the Council.



Records Management & Engagement



Work with IG Champions, service heads, and managers on records management maturity assessments, improvements, and action plans. Support training, awareness initiatives, and local embedding of IG policies and procedures.



General Responsibilities



Maintain high‑quality case records and audit trails.

Identify risks, recommend solutions, and drive continuous improvement.

Support the DPO in delivering statutory obligations and corporate IG objectives.



Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required



3 years or more strong working knowledge of Data Protection legislation and FOI.

Experience handling complex IG casework, including redaction and advisory support.

Ability to conduct quality assurance and peer review.

Experience assessing DPIAs and data breaches (desirable for temporary staff but beneficial).

Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence service areas.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Ability to manage competing priorities and work to statutory timescales.
