Crynodeb

We are looking for a friendly, engaging, enthusiastic person to join the School of Medicine Core Technical Services Community. This role will be based within the School’s University Park Technical Team, a highly skilled and dynamic group supporting multiple buildings performing multi-disciplinary teaching and research.

You will provide senior technical support to the School of Medicine, plan and oversee the day-to-day running of research and teaching laboratories, allocating resources and providing technical supervision and training in the use of equipment and techniques to relevant staff and students to ensure objectives are met. You will use knowledge, experience, and skills to provide excellent teaching and training in molecular disciplines (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, gene expression, protein quantification). You will be responsible for the upkeep of research and teaching facilities as well as the use and maintenance of equipment. Additionally, you will provide support for the regulatory requirements of working within a suite of laboratories, i.e. COSHH, chemical audits and safety monitoring.

You will work as part of a technical team, working flexibly to deliver an efficient and effective technical service. You will work with independence and initiative to complete processes, organising yours and others work to meet clear objectives. You will typically have responsibility for an area of work and will deal with tasks/issues/requests, delegating to junior colleagues and referring complex situations to your manager. Independence and initiative will be required to react to changing priorities and work circumstances, with scope to make decisions within clear parameters.

This is fixed term, full-time (36.25 hours per week) post to 28th February 2028. Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

This position is based at University Park. However, you will be expected to work flexibly to support the technical services across the School’s geographical sites.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Ian Bloor email Ian.bloor@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted
