Crynodeb

Applications are invited for a Junior Clinical Fellow (SHO level) in Paediatrics based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital for 12 months.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital provides a comprehensive range of neuro-musculoskeletal healthcare ranging from the most complex spinal injury or sarcoma to paediatric rheumatology, metabolic bone medicine and specialist rehabilitation.

RNOH has been ranked number 9 in a global ranking of orthopaedic centres and number 1 in the UK by Newsweek magazine. The global top-ten ranking highlights the crucial work the RNOH does in treating and supporting patients with some of the most complex and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as vital research and development into future treatments.

The post will be supporting the paediatric medical team at the RNOH in the capacity of junior clinical Fellow.

This post only has daytime responsibilities and primarily involves the medical management of children and adolescents undergoing orthopaedic and scoliosis surgery, often with underlying neurological diagnoses such as: cerebral palsy, or genetic syndromes such as Rett syndrome. Some children are not admitted for surgery but for rehabilitation (especially spinal cord injury rehabilitation). The clinical work is inpatient based and directed by daily consultant-led ward rounds..

The appointee will be expected to work closely with the paediatric multi-disciplinary team for the management of inpatients on our 27 bed children’s ward. As a valued member of the team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the units and will be offered study leave. Clinical research, audit and quality improvement activities will also be encouraged.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) was founded in 1907 with the amalgamation of London’s three specialist orthopaedic hospitals into a single centre of excellence. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust was formed in 1991 as one of the first wave of NHS Trusts.

RNOH is now a national tertiary hospital that provides a comprehensive range of neuro-musculoskeletal health care ranging from acute spinal injury and complex bone tumour management to orthopaedic medicine and specialist rehabilitation. As a national and international centre of excellence, we treat patients from all over the UK and other parts of the world, many of whom are tertiary referrals for second opinions or for treatment of complex or rare conditions.

This post only has daytime responsibilities and primarily involves the medical management of children and adolescents undergoing orthopaedic and scoliosis surgery, some of them with underlying neurological diagnoses such as: cerebral palsy, or genetic syndromes such as Rett syndrome.

There are three beds allocated for patients with spinal cord injury coming at RNOH for our bespoke rehabilitation program. Also, there is a sarcoma service based at RNOH with a rapid diagnostic pathway involving all paediatricians, with a weekly MDT, an acute referral service and many patients undergoing surgery.

Other important duties include audit, teaching and there are opportunities for clinical research too.

The clinical work is inpatient based and directed by daily consultant-led ward rounds.
