About the Role
We are looking for a passionate and supportive Vocational Learning Mentor to work with young people accessing our Alternative Provision.
This role focuses on supporting learners to engage in vocational activities and Functional Skills learning (up to Level 1) while helping them build confidence, improve behaviour for learning, and develop practical skills.
Our learners often benefit from smaller, supportive environments where relationships, encouragement and consistency are key. The successful candidate will need to be patient, adaptable and able to motivate young people who may have struggled in traditional education settings.
Key Responsibilities
~ To plan and deliver structured sessions that support learners to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge through vocational learning in areas such as Catering, Art and Esports, alongside Functional Skills learning up to Level 1.
~ Be responsible for teaching and assessing learners; including attending IQA meetings
~ Evidence of programme files - To ensure assessments are completed appropriately, are available for review, and stored correctly
~ Attend Quality Management Meetings with the Manager
~ Provide assessment records and learner work for Standards Verification
~ To liaise with line managers and administrators to ensure the resources are in place to deliver an effective service
~ To carry out student and key worker visits, review meetings and relay important information to the Manager
~To efficiently manage behaviour and attendance during all sessions
~ To maintain progress records/portfolios for each individual student
~ To complete a daily report and to ensure communication of important information
~ To ensure that Safeguarding policies and procedures are complied with and that reports are submitted and followed through with 24 hours
~ To maintain and ensure health & safety, food safety & hygiene and safeguarding procedures are followed
Person Specification
Training & Education
~ Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
~ Further or higher qualifications are welcomed.
~ Basic ICT skills to record, input and manage learner information.
Experience
~ Experience working with young people in a learning, youth work, or support environment.
~ Ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with young people.
~ Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
~ Understanding of learner progress, target setting, or assessment processes.
~ Experience or interest in Art, Catering or Esports.

Skills and Personal Qualities
~ Ability to use initiative and work independently when required.

~ Willingness to participate in ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including training in safeguarding, health and safety, and food safety and hygiene where applicable.
~ An Enhanced DBS check will be required for this role (or willingness to obtain one prior to employment).
