Band 7 Diabetes Podiatrist

This role is offered on a part time basis of 20 hours per week, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with significant clinical experience in managing diabetic foot care.

This is an exciting development opportunity to work across the diabetic foot care pathway. You will work collaboratively with colleagues from primary, secondary and community teams.

We are really proud of our podiatry team, this post will allow you the opportunity to make a difference to people with diabetic foot complications and to work within a multidisciplinary team under the mentorship of the diabetic foot coordinator. This is a non surgical post but we work closely with thepodiatric surgical team.

You should be highly organised, working on your own initiative. You should be aware of professional and national guidelines, be up to date with current best practice and be able to demonstrate your interest in continued professional development.

Our client base is high-risk and you will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the treatment and management of foot complications associated with this high risk caseload, working within many clinical settings.

This post is within the acute podiatry team, where you will work with the diabetes Multidisciplinary Foot Team (MDFT). You will provide assessment, diagnosis and high quality care to patients with a variety of active and high risk feet and lower limb morbidity such as in diabetes, renal, peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy and arthropathies.

You will be able to work as an independent practitioner, confident in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients with highly complex diabetic foot conditions and as one of the lead clinicians in the integrated team. You will work within all clinical settings across primary, secondary and community care setting.

You will work closely with the Diabetic foot coordinator and support the Podiatry Head of service in the development and delivery of specialist (diabetic) foot care within GWH.

Act as a specialist practitioner, demonstrating advanced theoretical knowledge and highly specialised clinical skills within the field of the diabetic foot.

Manages complex cases using and developing advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection and analysis to support assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment planning i.e. predominately but not exclusively for patients living with diabetes.
• Supports management of patients with complex chronic and acute conditions whilst inpatients
• Help with the management and support the renal case load of high risk patient
• To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload
• Provide support and clinical leadership to community colleagues
