Due to the partnership between Hays and Birmingham City Council, we are looking to recruit a Sheltered Housing Support Officer to manage their sheltered housing provisions in the East of the city.

Your new role
Birmingham City Council is looking for a compassionate, proactive, and community‑focused Sheltered Housing Support Officer to join their Housing team. You'll play a vital role in supporting older and vulnerable residents to live independently, safely, and confidently within our sheltered housing schemes.This is a rewarding frontline role where no two days are the same. You'll build positive relationships with residents, co‑ordinate support, and ensure our schemes are welcoming, safe, and well‑managed. The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Providing day‑to‑day support to residents, promoting wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion.
- Carrying out regular welfare checks and respond to emergencies in line with council procedures.
- Working collaboratively with residents, families, health services, and community agencies.
- Promoting and facilitating meetings that strengthen community bonds and reduce isolation.
- Ensuring the scheme environment is safe, clean, and compliant with health and safety requirements, carrying out regular health and safety checks.
- Act as the primary contact for residents regarding housing‑related queries, repairs, tenancy issues, and general advice.
- Support the smooth running of the scheme by managing communal areas and engaging with contractors and service providers.
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will need:
- To be empathetic, approachable, and confident communicating with a wide range of people.
- Experienced in supporting older or vulnerable adults (in housing, health, social care, or community settings).
- To be able to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- To be organised, reliable, and able to manage a varied workload.
- Skilled at building trust, encouraging independence, and promoting resident wellbeing.
- Comfortable working independently while also being part of a wider team.
- Experienced in carrying out health and safety check and record these accurately.
A full UK driving licence is desired as there may be the requirement to travel between locations.
