An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our award-winning Planning Policy Team and play a key role in shaping the future of our borough.
Our Planning Department continues to go from strength to strength, having been named East Midlands Local Planning Authority Team of the Year (2024) and with one of our Planning Policy team members receiving a commendation in the East Midlands Young Planner of the Year (2025).
To build on this success, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to complement our growing team. Ideally, you will be an experienced Planning Officer or Senior Planning Officer, but we welcome applications from candidates at other grades who are keen to develop their career. Whatever your level of experience, we are committed to supporting your professional growth and progression.
As a Career Grade Planner, you will play a vital role in delivering a sound and sustainable Local Plan and contributing to the wider success of the Planning Department.
We are at an exciting stage in our Local Plan process, with Regulation 19 pre-submission publication scheduled for later this year and submission to the Secretary of State for Examination in Public by year-end. In addition, we work collaboratively to deliver strategic planning priorities across Leicestershire and support the development of successful neighbourhood plans within the borough.
Our work is varied and rewarding, encompassing a wide range of development proposals including urban extensions, major employment sites, sensitive locations, and rural development schemes.
You will need to be an effective communicator, confident in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and skilled at negotiating solutions to complex and sometimes challenging issues. In return, we will provide opportunities to broaden your expertise and gain valuable experience to support your professional development and career progression.
If you are passionate about planning and want to make a real impact, we would love to hear from you.
The career progression scheme explains the expectations for each job level within the scheme. If your application is successful, you will be appointed at the appropriate scale and starting salary, depending on your skills and experience.
