Our client, a prominent educational institution in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Full-time Teaching Assistant (Makaton) to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and utilising the Makaton communication system.

As a Full-time Teaching Assistant (Makaton), you will play a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience of our students. Your responsibilities will include providing one-to-one and small group support, assisting with lesson planning and delivery, and facilitating the use of Makaton to enhance communication and learning outcomes. You will work closely with our teaching staff, therapists, and other support professionals to ensure that our students receive the highest level of care and attention.

The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of the Makaton communication system, as well as experience working with children or young adults who have special educational needs. You will be a collaborative team player, with excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt your teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each student. A genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of our students is essential.

- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special educational needs, using Makaton to facilitate communication and learning
- Assist with the development and implementation of personalised learning plans, in collaboration with teaching staff and other professionals
- Facilitate the use of Makaton in the classroom, ensuring that students have access to the resources and support they need to effectively communicate
- Support students with daily living activities, such as personal care, as needed
- Collaborate with teaching staff to plan and deliver engaging and inclusive lessons
- Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to teachers and other professionals
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve your skills and knowledge
- Maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students
- Experience working with children or young adults who have special educational needs
- Proficiency in the Makaton communication system, with the ability to effectively teach and utilise it in the classroom
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
- Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills, with the ability to think creatively and find solutions to support student learning
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of students
- Relevant qualifications in education, special needs support, or a related field are highly desirable
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
