Cleaner & Fire Safety Tester
Employer: Devonia Estates Ltd
Location: Devonport Dockyard, SO97–98, Plymouth, PL1 4SG
Contract Type: Self-employed cleaning contractor
Hours: Approx. 2 visits per week (cleaning) + weekly fire safety checks
Working Times: Cleaning ideally before 8am or after 6pm
Pay: Target £500 per calendar month (please quote)

About the Role
Devonia Estates Ltd is seeking a reliable and trustworthy contractor to provide regular cleaning and basic janitorial support for a small commercial office building. The role also includes routine fire alarm testing and emergency lighting checks, with records maintained.
Cleaning Duties
Times Twice Per Week (Tuesday/Friday)
• - Clean first floor WCs: deep clean toilets, clean sinks, mirrors, floors; empty bins; refill soap & paper supplies
• - Clean reception/kitchenette/utility: disinfect worktops & splashback; clean and dry sink; wipe under-cupboard; check fridge for spillages
• - Vacuum carpets throughout entrance/lobby/stairs/landing/corridors and remove stains where possible
Weekly Tasks:
• - Flush ground floor WCs and run water into basins to maintain traps
• - Clean disabled WC (as required) and replenish soap/paper supplies
• - Clean toilet and staircase windows and glazed screens to lobby/reception
• - External areas: litter pick/sweep as needed; check planter/remove weeds; wipe down external signage; keep ramps/steps clear and safe
• - Replace blown lamps where safe to do so
• - Check paintwork for scuffs and remove marks where possible; wipe down switch plates and door entry-phone face; polish front door brass
• - Wipe stair tread nosings and check for security
Fire Safety & Emergency Lighting
Weekly Fire Alarm Test:
• - Carry out a weekly fire alarm test at a regular specified time when the building is fully occupied
• - Maintain the fire alarm record book / log
Emergency Lighting Checks:
• - Perform routine emergency lighting checks and record results (every fortnight)
• - Report any failed fittings/indicators promptly to the owner
Supplies & Equipment
• - Contractor to supply and maintain all cleaning materials and equipment
• -items reimbursed at cost if agreed
Contract Terms
• - Annual contract continuing until terminated by either party
• - One month’s notice required
• - Three-month probation period
• - Payment monthly in arrears
