Role Overview
To conduct detailed and apex inspections of hazardous area electrical installations in accordance with BS EN 60079-17, ATEX/DSEAR principles, and site safety standards. The role is based on Ascension Island and involves working in a remote, industrial environment supporting critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform Detailed (Close) Inspections of Ex-rated equipment.
• Conduct Apex (Initial/Periodic) Inspections to verify full compliance of hazardous area installations.
• Inspect protection concepts including Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, Ex n, Ex t systems.
• Examine cable glands, terminations, earthing/bonding, and enclosure integrity.
• Verify equipment certification, tagging, and hazardous area classification compliance.
• Record and categorise defects (minor/major/critical).
• Produce structured inspection reports and remedial action lists.
• Work in compliance with site-specific safety management systems.
• Support engineering teams during shutdowns or upgrade projects.
Essential Qualifications
• CompEx Certification (Ex01–Ex04 minimum)
• Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship / NVQ/SVQ Level 3
• 18th Edition (BS 7671)
• Proven hazardous area inspection experience
• Strong working knowledge of BS EN 60079 series
