Summary


We have exciting opportunities forundergraduate studentslooking togain hands-on experienceand develop their careers within an NHS Finance function. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking motivated students with a strong foundation in accounting and finance, along with essential IT skills, particularly in Excel, for a 12-month placement starting inAugust 2026.

To be eligible, you must be in your second year of undergraduate studyand have a passion for pursuing a career in accounting and finance after graduation. Placements will be within the Finance Directorate, with opportunities to work across our hospitals, including at ourCorporate Services Business Unit at Trafford General Hospitalas well as atOxford Road Campus, North Manchester and Wythenshawe hospitals.

The selection process includes avirtual assessment centreand awork-based exercise. If successful, you will be invited to a formalinterview, which will involve apresentation. These are expected to take place in March/April 2026.

PLEASE NOTE - This is not a comprehensive list and tasks will vary dependent on the specific role assigned to the successful candidate.

1. Providing support to senior team members in providing timely and accurate finance reports to service users and budget holders.

2. Assisting in the completion of budget, balance sheet and transactional reconciliations.

3. Acting as the initial contact point within the team for queries from service providers and budget holders, as well external stakeholders.

4. Undertaking project work and ad-hoc tasks relating to the post-holders specific area of work.

5. Assisting in the completion of responses relating to FOI (Freedom of Information) queries.

6. Producing accurate and auditable records for all work that is undertaken.

7. Maintaining and updating procedure notes relevant to their areas of work.

8. Contributing to the production of statements for the final accounts.

9. Responsible for collating and filing source financial and non-financial documents (supplier invoices, financial statements, correspondence) in accordance with departmental procedures

10. Assisting in the production of periodic reports to senior finance staff, directorate managers and budget holders.

11. Supporting the co-ordination of all supporting systems, e.g. ESR, General Ledger.

12. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities as determined by their line manager within the overall parameters of the post.
