The Fertility Centre (TFC), established in 1995, is part of the Department of Private Practice and offers a comprehensive range of infertility treatments. Licensed by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, TFC provides individualized care through a highly skilled and dedicated team. The service includes an outpatient infertility clinic for rapid diagnostic work-up of couples referred by GPs or specialists, with all treatments delivered within the Centre. These include ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination, donor insemination, IVF, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and ovum donation.
TFC also runs aReproductive Ageing and Fertility Programme, led by Mr Dimitrios Nikolaou, focusing on women over 40, those with low ovarian reserve, and fertility preservation for cancer or social reasons. The unit performs500–600 IVF/ICSI cycles annually, with plans to expand activity. Patients include both NHS-funded and private cases.
Clinical leadership comprises Consultants Mr Nikolaou, Mr Julian Norman-Taylor, and Miss Kate Maclaran (Service Director). The laboratory is headed by Dr Paula Almeida with a team of embryologists, supported by specialist nurses and administrative staff. TFC also operates atWest Middlesex Hospital, offering subfertility clinics, fertility theatre lists, and an IVF satellite service. The post may involve rotation to West Middlesex for cross-cover.
This position is vital to the smooth operation of the Fertility Centre, requiring strong clinical expertise and patient care coordination. The role is primarily based in the fertility unit with additional sessions in gynaecology subfertility clinics. The post holder will work closely with consultants and their NHS/private secretaries to ensure seamless patient journeys. Key responsibilities include:
• Attending and preparing for daily consultant-led briefings with full knowledge of scheduled patients and procedures.
• Performing transabdominal and transvaginal scans.
• Preparing for and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, presenting cases, coordinating input from specialists (e.g., urologists, endocrinologists), and documenting outcomes.
• Setting up and coordinating fertility treatments, particularly IVF.
• Managing NHS funding applications in collaboration with the patient liaison officer.
• Maintaining and updating clinical databases, including those for the Reproductive Ageing and Fertility Preservation Programme, and supporting audits.
• Reviewing admitted patients daily and updating consultants.
• Active involvement in outpatient infertility and IVF sessions, quality management programs, and performing procedures such as saline scans, endometrial scratch, and intrauterine insemination, with training opportunities in egg collection and HyCoSy.
• Managing clinic and treatment room rotas and liaising with administrators for bookings.

All fertility treatments are provided within The Fertility Centre. Private Liaison Team
Key responsibilities
This position is critical to the day to day running of the unit, with intimate knowledge of the care of the patients. The work will be mainly clinical work in the fertility unit, but also sessions in the gynaecology subfertility clinics. The post holder will liaise very closely with the consultants and
their NHS and private secretaries to facilitate and coordinate the journey of each patient. Duties will include but not limited to;
Being present and prepared each morning for the briefing sessions lead by the consultant for the day. This preparation includes knowing the patients for the planned procedures.
The post holder will be competent in providing transabdominal and transvaginal scanning.
The post holder will be present and prepared for the multidisciplinary team meetings. This includes preparing patients for presentation and discussion, knowing the details of their case and arranging for the appropriate professionals, (urologist, endocrinologist etc.) to be present or their contribution to be presented during the meeting. Also recording the findings in the medical records and writing the patients as necessary.
The post holder will be responsible for setting up and coordination of fertility treatments, especially IVF.
Organising and managing the NHS funding of fertility treatment in collaboration with the patient liaison officer. This includes completing and submitting application forms for funding.
Database update and clinical audit including the database for the Reproductive Ageing and fertility preservation programme. It is an essential part of the job to maintain databases according to
the instructions of the supervisor, PR and service director.
The post holder be responsible for reviewing all patients of the unit who have been admitted as inpatients on the gynaecology ward on a daily basis. The coordinator will see these patients at least once a day and keep the consultants up to date.
The post holder will play an active role in outpatient sessions in general infertility and IVF.
Participation in the Quality Management program within TFC is a fundamental part of the post holder’s duties.
Performing some procedures in the treatment room, such as saline scans, endometrial scratch and intrauterine insemination. There will also be opportunities for training in egg collection and HyCoSy.
Ensure the continued running of the service.
Maintaining the spreadsheet with the staff allocation for clinics and treatment room (rota) and liaising with the appropriative administrators for booking clinics and theatres. The post holder will be responsible to the consultants who form the consultant team. The postholder will always be supervised, either directly or indirectly and will always report to the
nominated Consultant for each session, outpatient or theatre. A formal review of clinical progress will be carried out at regular intervals using the unit’s competency tool
