Summary
We are looking for experienced Flood Risk Analysts, at all grades above graduate, to join our established development and flood risk focused team in Haywards Heath. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, site-specific and strategic flood risk advice to a wide range of clients involved in development and land use planning projects.
The role also offers significant opportunities to work on a wide range of JBA projects and alongside some of the UK’s foremost technical experts in flood risk and water management.

The role:
As a Flood Risk Analyst, you will be responsible for the management and leadership of projects for developers and Local Planning Authority clients.
With appropriate consideration of a candidate’s experience and seniority, responsibilities shall include:
• Directing, coordinating and undertaking Flood Risk Assessments (England) in accordance with NPPF and/or Flood Consequence Assessment (Wales) in accordance with TAN15
• Providing planning related advice in relation to flood risk and drainage, for projects in England and Wales
• Supporting and delivering technical assessments, utilising knowledge of hydraulic modelling and hydrological assessments
• Developing solutions and assessing options for flood risk mitigation
• Supporting, managing or directing the delivery of high-quality projects to programme and budget requirements
• Working closely and effectively with clients, design teams, and stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes
• Preparing fee proposals and tenders, and undertaking business development activities
• Supporting and mentor junior staff
• Fostering close working relationships with colleagues and clients, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

The successful candidate will be dynamic, well organised, motivated and flexible, with a passion for water and the environment and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The right candidate will be an organised self-starter, who manages their own workload and that of others. They will be able to balance priorities, work on their own initiative and a pragmatic thinker.
Applicants should have a geography, science or engineering related qualification, degree or equivalent.
Chartered status (CIWEM or ICE) is important to JBA and valued by our clients to be able to demonstrate experience of working in the UK development and flood risk sector. Therefore, applicants should ideally be chartered or close to achieving chartership.
Essential attributes for the role:
• Experience of preparing and coordinating FRA’s and/or FCA’s
• Excellent knowledge and awareness of the UK planning process and policy
• Knowledge of analysing and interpreting hydraulic model outputs
• Effective technical report writing skills and verbal communication skills, to explain complex technical issues to non-specialists
• Work winning skills and experience
• Quality assurance and review expertise
• Project management, including contract and commercial awareness
• Familiarity in working in GIS and CAD formats
• Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word/Excel).
Desirable attributes for the role:
• Experience preparing outline drainage strategies
• Experience using hydraulic modelling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW and HEC-RAS
• Experience in hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook methodologies
• Mentoring skills to help develop junior staff
• Team leadership skills
• Quality assurance and review expertise
• Tender preparation
• Networking and building existing and new client relationships
• A full UK driving licence.

We are principally seeking to recruit into our Haywards Heath, RH16 3BW office. However, for the right candidate, there may be opportunities in our other southern offices in Portsmouth, Bristol, Exeter and Cardiff.
