Crynodeb
Ward 1 on the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site of University Hospital Dorset is a 22 bedded Gastroenterology unit which looks after patients with a variety of different conditions. We have a diverse patient group ranging from teenagers to the elderly meaning that your day is always varied and interesting!
We are a close knit team who are looking for a dedicated and passionate registered nurse to join us.
Exciting opportunities for nurses include:
- A four bedded GI Bay providing high level care for patients with GI bleeding giving the opportunity to develop intensive nursing skills.
- Using the CLIP method with student nurses. We have 4 students on shift 7 days a week and are following a different structure of student placement providing staff the opportunity to develop their teaching, coaching and educational competence.
- A fun, friendly team who all have the same goal to provide high quality patient care. Our motto- ''WeAlways strive toReliablyDeliverOutstandingNursing care toEveryone''
- A competency framework/training programme to work towards being able to nurse in the GI Bay; this includes IV assessment, blood transfusions, male catheterisation, CVAD management, venepuncture, cannulation and ILS training.
This role requires an active UK NMC Registration
Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

The conditions we see mostly on Ward 1 are:
- Liver disease
- Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease
- GI Bleeding (various causes)
- Pancreatic and other hepatobiliary cancers
- Eating disorders
- Alcohol withdrawal
Shifts include long days (7-19.30), earlies (7-15.00) , lates (11:30-19:30) and nights (19.00-07.30)
UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
