Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Clinical Lead position on Ward 11. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced senior cancer nurse with strong leadership skills to join and strengthen our Haematology service and play a key role in shaping the future delivery of Haematology inpatient care.
Ward 11 is currently a 12-bed acute Haematology inpatient ward, specialising in the care of patients undergoing cancer treatments and the management of treatment-related side effects, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, supportive care, symptom management and end-of-life care.
A central element of this role will be to oversee and support the planned integration of Ward 7R and Ward 11 into a single, cohesive Haematology inpatient service. This will involve providing visible clinical leadership, supporting staff through change, ensuring continuity of safe, high-quality care, and embedding consistent standards, processes and culture across the combined wards.
The Clinical Lead will support and develop a highly skilled and dedicated nursing team, maintaining excellence in patient-centred care while upholding robust clinical governance and risk management frameworks. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capability, excellent communication skills, and a clear understanding of quality assurance, risk, and governance, with the ability to monitor, evaluate and continually improve standards of care during a period of service development and transition.
Main Duties of the Job
• Provide strong clinical and professional leadership to the Haematology inpatient nursing team, promoting high standards of patient-centred care.
• Lead the safe delivery of specialist Haematology care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, supportive and end-of-life care.
• Oversee and support workforce development, including supervision, appraisal, coaching and performance management of nursing staff.
• Lead service development and change management, including the integration of Haematology wards into a single cohesive service.
• Ensure robust clinical governance, risk management and compliance with Trust policies, national guidance and regulatory standards.
• Monitor quality, safety and patient experience through audit, incident review and quality improvement initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective communication, patient flow and continuity of care.
• Act as a visible and accessible clinical leader, supporting staff wellbeing and fostering a positive, inclusive ward culture.
