Humanities Teacher (History & Geography) - Specialist SEND Secondary

Are you an experienced Humanities specialist ready to bring the world to life for students with unique learning needs?

We are seeking a dedicated History & Geography Teacher to join our founding team at a brand-new SEND secondary school openied in September 2025. Located in Chaldon, Surrey, this is a rare opportunity to shape a Humanities curriculum from the ground up, specifically designed for young people aged 11-16 with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs.

The Package
  • Salary: £34,398 - £48,913 per year (M1 - UPS1 Fringe)

  • Bonus: £5,000 Welcome Bonus for Qualified Teachers

  • Contract: Full-time, Permanent

  • Hours: 40 hours per week (Finish at 4:00 PM every Friday)

  • Location: Chaldon, Surrey (with occasional work at our satellite site in Caterham)

Why This Role is Different

For an experienced SEN professional or a mainstream teacher looking to specialise, this role offers the environment you need to truly teach:

  • Founding Influence: As the school opens its doors in 2025, you will play a key role in developing a personalised Humanities curriculum that meets the passions and interests of our students.

  • Small Class Sizes: Trade large-scale classroom management for high-impact, small-group teaching supported by a supernumerary multi-disciplinary team.

  • Holistic Progress: You will move beyond standard testing to focus on personalised targets, EHCP outcomes, and the overall welfare of your pupils.

  • Collaborative Support: Work daily alongside therapists and SEN experts to ensure every child has "every opportunity to achieve".

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Delivery: Deliver high-quality History and Geography lessons tailored to students with autism and complex learning needs

  • Individualised Learning: Set, monitor, and review personalised targets to optimise learning for each student.

  • Professional Advocacy: Contribute to the review of EHCPs, PEPs, and LAC reviews, ensuring academic and social needs are met.

  • Safe Learning Environment: Manage challenging behaviours through a non-confrontational, reflective approach in line with school policies.

  • Strategic Planning: Maintain short, medium, and long-term plans while providing subject leadership across the school.

About You

We are looking for a resilient and creative practitioner who understands that for our students, History and Geography are windows to understanding the wider world.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or equivalent.

  • Proven experience delivering a differentiated curriculum to pupils with SEND.

  • Sound knowledge of the National Curriculum and how to adapt it for complex needs.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Driving License: Highly desirable due to our rural location and limited public transport.

Desirable Criteria:

  • A postgraduate diploma in Autism.

  • Experience working specifically with students who present with challenging behaviours.
