Title - Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner Specialty - Bexley UTCs (Queen Marys Sidcup and Erith UTC) Location - Queen Mary Sidcup Urgent Care and Erith Hospital Employment type - Permanent Hours - :Full time, Part time, Job Sharing Salary - Competitive salary based on experience Accountable to - UTC Co Clinical Director and BHNC Clinical Director Responsible to - Director of Operations and Head of Nursing. Role Summary As Lead ACP across Queen Marys and Erith UTCs, you will: Provide visible, expert clinical leadership (60% clinical presence) Develop and champion ACP, ECP and HCA practice in line with NHS standards Lead workforce modernisation, education and professional development Drive system integration with neighbourhood and community teams Shape service redesign to improve flow, safety and patient outcomes Lead governance, complaints and incident learning You will be a core member of the UTC senior leadership team, influencing strategy while maintaining hands-on clinical excellence in minor injury and illness Key Working Relationships Key relationships include but are not limited to: BHNC Board BHNC Senior Management Team UTC Senior Management Team BHNC Training Hub Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Key Responsibilities Duties The post holder will have current effective status on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registered Nurse or the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) To provide clinical, professional, and managerial leadership across the Bexley UTCs. To be the nursing and allied health professional lead, providing a strong clinical presence and developing nurses and allied health professional practice within the UTC, assuring the provision of a safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing service to patients. To be a core member of the management team, supporting the Bexley UTCs and BHNC in achieving its plans ensuring that Bexley UTCs can meet its agreed targets within the available resources. To partake on the on-call rota. Actively support the team objectives by developing services and leading on projects to influence service redesign. Lead and participate in projects and areas of work, which reflect clinical, professional, and corporate objectives including the productivity of all nursing and allied health professional staff. To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct, To act as an expert clinical practitioner in the clinical setting, initiating autonomous, advanced practice skills and clinical decision making. Undertake role of Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner with caseload in minor injuries and illness. Provide health education and promote healthy lifestyle for patients and carers. To act as a clinical resource for staff in the UTC service providing expert clinical and profession advice and support as required. Assist in the effective management by promoting safe systems of work and identifying areas where changes in practice would achieve a more effective outcome. Promote positive image in the development of the ENP and ECP role. Ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively and all equipment used in the care of patients is appropriately maintained and used only by those individuals with the appropriate training. Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions. Priorities health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care. Work with the GPs and other senior colleagues to develop and expand the role of the ENP and ECP. Actively participate and monitor a program of redirection. Actively promote pharmacy first To ensure practice is supported by research, evidence-based practice, literature and peer review including NICE guidelines. As the Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner to ensure that the development of education and training provision meets the clinical needs of the UTCs and supports compliance of the relevant healthcare standards. To lead or participate in professional and clinical committees (where appropriate) on projects both internally and externally. Develop a job plan that ensures high visibility in clinical areas including 80% of work time being spent in a clinical role. To participate in workforce redesign and modernisation for the nursing workforce, working in close partnership with key stakeholders. To be responsible for effective workforce planning within managed areas on a day-to-day basis. Participate in the annual review of the nursing workforce plan and ensure that the staff establishment and profile is sufficient to meet the needs of the service and manageable within the resources available. Act as lead for recruitment, induction and retention of nursing & allied Health Professional staff for designated areas as indicated by the annual workforce plan. Personal and Professional Development Directly manage the nursing/Allied health professional within the UTCs, and through them ensure that all members of the clinical teams are managed in accordance with BHNCs policies and procedures. Manage and undertake appraisals for directly managed staff and ensure systems are in place for the appraisal of all permanent staff. Manage poor performance To ensure training needs analysis is undertaken, in line with the appraisal process, and an annual development plan for designated areas nursing staff is developed. Work with external teams, utilising available electronic systems, benchmarking, best practice standards and professional judgement to ensure establishments are suitable to provide safe care. Shift lead for on-site management including escalation when required. Undertake incident and complaint investigation as required Attend and represent the UTC at appropriate meetings. Undertake staff risk assessments as required. Ensure accurate, timely and accessible information and reports are produced for all areas of responsibility contributing to the performance monitoring framework for BHNC. Undertake audit activities as required to enhance, improve and provide services. Work within SE ICB medicines management guidelines. Take responsibility for own learning and performance including participating in clinical supervision and acting as a positive role mode. Actively promote the workplace as a learning environment, encouraging everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice. Encourage others to make realistic self-assessment of their application of knowledge and skills, challenging any complacency or actions that are not in the interest of the public and/or users of services. Participate in any training programme implemented by the management team. Effectively manage own time, workload and resources Assess own performance and development and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision. Demonstrate interpersonal skills when dealing with all levels of staff across BHNC using persuasion, tact and reassurance where necessary. Handle confidential patient material in a sensitive and discrete fashion in compliance with Bexley Health Neighbourhood Care policy and procedure. Liaise with other departments and members of the Bexley Health Neighbourhood Care and other organisations to ensure the smooth running of the role to assisting the functioning of the UTC team. General Maintain confidentiality at all times. Represent the organisation positively and professionally, behaving as an ambassador for BHNC by displaying the organisations values and levels of expected professionalism at all times. Liaise with other departments and members of BHNC and other organisations to ensure the smooth running of the role. Work within BHNC policies and procedures.
