The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.

The Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group sits at the heart of the Home Office. The group ensures the best evidence and analysis are used to address the strategic issues facing the department. We also provide the science, technology, data, and international insights and collaboration capabilities to drive delivery.

The Home Office Data and Identity (HOD&I) Directorate, within the Chief Digital and Innovation Office, (plays a central coordination and leadership role across the Home Office, driving data strategy, transformation, law and adoption of data driven technologies.

In support of this, the HOD&I Data Capability Centre (DCC) is leading on the development and implementation of a department-wide Data and Analytics Strategy.

This role will develop and implement a department-wide data and analytics strategy, working with stakeholders across the department to understand the data issues which are impacting business outcomes, devise approaches for how the strategy can be implemented across departmental business areas, and where the DCC can lead the development of new products and services that support the implementation of the strategy.

This will require the successful applicant to undertake business analysis, engage with a wide stakeholder group to build collaborative working relationships, and work closely with stakeholders to define the projects and programmes which are needed to implement the strategy in a multi-year transformation.

This is a key role on a high-profile activity within the Home Office’s data and analytics landscape, offering a high-level of visibility with senior stakeholders from across the Department, wider agencies and Government. It will suit someone with demonstrable experience in business analysis, data and analytics, who is confident in working proactively in a fast-paced area with high expectations to deliver. The post provides a unique opportunity to develop advanced leadership, strategy and influencing skills.

Key Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Undertaking business analysis, working closely with stakeholders across the department to understand what data-related issues they are facing, and turning this analysis into recommendations for interventions.
  • If required, employing a range of tools and techniques to map ‘As-Is’ and To-Be’ business processes.
  • Proactively driving the progress of tasks and workstreams that you will be responsible for.
  • Identifying, monitoring and proactively managing project risks and issues.
  • Assisting the Data and Analytics Strategy Lead in maintaining the project plan.
  • Drafting engagement products, including briefing, slides and lines to take in response to external queries.
  • Supporting the wider Strategy team with stakeholder. engagement, and arranging, facilitating and leading workshops.
  • Identifying high impact interventions which will have a positive effect on Home Office organisational outcomes and prioritise them for delivery and implementation.
  • Supporting the design of the Department’s data and information operating model and support implementation of roles and responsibilities for information governance, steering discussions and recommendations at DG and director levels.
  • Supporting the development of a single, prioritised transformation roadmap. This will include collating, aligning and steering strategies across various functions and teams and building links and connections to drive coherence.

Working Pattern

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. However, compressed hours are available.

Travel

Occasional travel within the UK may be required. Travel costs incurred for business need will be reimbursed in line with Home Office travel policy.
