Their Help & Protect teams work closely with children, parents and wider family networks to achieve positive, sustainable outcomes through relationship‑based practice and multi‑agency collaboration.

The Role
A Social Worker is required to join the Family Safeguarding Team, supporting children subject to Child in Need and Child Protection Plans, pre‑proceedings and legal proceedings. Working within Somerset’s established Family Safeguarding model, the postholder will collaborate with adult‑focused practitioners in areas such as domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental health to inform assessments and plans. The role includes direct work with families, strengths‑based planning and contributing to safe, effective decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of CIN, CP, PLO and court‑involved children and families.

Complete high‑quality assessments, plans and direct work using a relationship‑based approach.

Work alongside specialist practitioners to inform holistic assessments.

Engage parents and wider family networks, including through Family Group Conferencing.

Maintain accurate, timely case records using Magic Notes.

Participate in reflective supervision and contribute to team learning.

Work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners to support sustainable change.

Ensure statutory visiting, planning and safeguarding requirements are met.

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

Substantial experience in children’s safeguarding and statutory social work.

Strong relationship‑based practice and motivational interviewing skills.

Ability to work flexibly, with up to 2 days remote working per week.

Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
