About the role This post provides a unique opportunity to join our innovative and expanding infection department. We welcome applicants with either CCT in Microbiology or joint CCT in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology. This is a replacement post offered at 10 PAs full time, though part time applicants with pro - rata on call will be considered. The post holder will be responsible for contributing to our 24-hour Clinical Infection Service. Infection services in the trust encompass a wide range of complex and interesting cases including The Mid Yorkshire Regional Adult Burns Centre and Regional Children’s Burns Unit and Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre. The Trust is developing a range of clinical care services relevant to Infectious Diseases and Microbiology dual trained consultants, with one such consultant already in post. Our Trust recently attained Teaching status. As part of our journey to University Hospital status, the Trust has a strategic priority to increase our number of clinical academic positions, we would welcome applicants who have an aspiration to adopt a clinical academic role in future. Main duties The post holder will work effectively alongside clinical colleagues to provide a comprehensive infection service including: • Provision of clinical advice from within the Trust, primary care and other healthcare colleagues in our region • Authorisation and interpretation of laboratory results • Liaison with the laboratory team • Working effectively with junior infection specialist colleagues, the pharmacy team and regional infection specialist colleagues • Infection prevention and control advice - with opportunity to take up Trust infection control roles e.g. DIPC • Liaising with the local UKHSA team for notifiable diseases/organisms and participation in mandatory surveillance • Multidisciplinary meetings – including haematology, orthopaedics, infection control, regional burns centre and intensive care • Developing services including outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), undergraduate teaching and research • On-call duties – currently shared on a 1 in 4 basis. On-call responsibility is currently based on 1 in 4 rota. • Involvement in clinical governance, audit and quality of care assessment, maintenance and improvement Please see the attached full job description for an example weekly timetable. Essential person specification requirements To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria: Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within six months of interview). UK trained applicants must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) including Microbiology, or be within 6 months of award of CCT by date of at the time of the advisory appointments committee. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT Medical Degree (e.g. MBBS) from recognised medical school Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in infection speciality (or show evidence of equivalent) Wide experience of working within a microbiology department Eligibility to work in the UK Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services Good time management Able to communicate clearly & effectively with multidisciplinary team & patients Caring and compassionate Willingness to learn & comply with all aspects of Trust’s internal systems, processes & policies Physically able to carry out the duties of the post Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) Clearance For the full Person Specification, including desirable criteria for the role, please refer to the attached document within the job description.
