Summary









The post holder will provide specialist advice, leadership, and expert guidance on all aspects of adult safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005, including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). They will ensure the Trust’s compliance with national legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice, while actively promoting a culture that upholds human rights and protects individuals from abuse and neglect.



The post holder will lead the day-to-day delivery of the adult safeguarding agenda across the Trust in line with local and national requirements, acting as a clinical expert in adult safeguarding, the MCA and DoLS.



Working closely with the Head of Safeguarding, the post holder will contribute to strategic and professional leadership for adult safeguarding and MCA practice. They will deputise for the Head of Adult Safeguarding as required and will hold line management responsibility for the safeguarding adults team.



The post holder will lead the coordination, delivery, and monitoring of the Trust-wide safeguarding and MCA/DoLS training programme in accordance with the RCN intercollegiate framework. They will also lead on quality improvement initiatives within adult safeguarding and MCA practice.


Provide strategic and professional leadership in partnership with the Head of Safeguarding, including deputising as required and contributing to Trust-wide safeguarding strategy and assurance.Lead the operational delivery of the adult safeguarding agenda across the organisation, ensuring compliance with national legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice.

Support the development, implementation, and review of Trust policies, procedures, and pathways relating to adult safeguarding, MCA, and DoLS, ensuring they reflect current legislation and guidance.Line manage and professionally support members of the adult safeguarding team, ensuring high standards of practice, supervision, and professional development.

Lead on the coordination, delivery, quality assurance, and evaluation of adult safeguarding and MCA/DoLS training in line with the RCN intercollegiate framework and national competency standards.

Oversee and provide expert oversight of complex safeguarding cases, MCA assessments, best interest decision-making, and DoLS applications, offering advice, challenge, and escalation where required.Lead and support quality improvement initiatives, learning from safeguarding adult reviews (SARs), serious incidents, complaints, and audits to improve practice and patient outcomes

Represent the Trust at local safeguarding partnerships, multi-agency meetings, and statutory reviews, contributing to system-wide learning and improvement.
