Senior Electronic Engineer – Defence Industry/Anti-submarine warfare
Location: Weymouth or Greenford (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week)
• 37 hours per week with flexible working hours (10am-3pm are core hours)
• UK Eyes Only – Must be eligible for SC Clearance
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Electronic Engineer to join a growing Hardware Engineering team delivering advanced, safety-critical electronic solutions for complex maritime systems.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across the full design lifecycle on a mixture of digital and analogue electronics, contributing to innovative new designs in a highly collaborative yet technically autonomous environment.
You will play a key role in delivering engineering projects on time, on quality, and on budget, directly impacting successful project outcomes.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Designing, developing and testing electronic equipment, circuits and systems
• Working across the full design lifecycle – from concept through to build and test
• Creating schematics, undertaking circuit design, and performing practical bench work (including soldering and equipment build)
• Developing and executing test plans
• Writing technical reports and presenting work at peer and design reviews
• Ensuring adherence to engineering processes and documentation standards
• Contributing to moderately complex projects, solving challenging technical problems
• Estimating engineering work packages and identifying dependencies
• Supporting safety, environmental protection and compliance considerations
• Providing technical guidance, coaching or mentoring to junior engineers where required
You will be expected to plan and lead your own work, operating independently while collaborating effectively within the wider engineering team.
Team & Environment
You will join a 12-person hardware engineering function within a wider multidisciplinary team. The culture is collaborative, technically focused, and supportive of professional growth.
Essential Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electronic or Electrical Engineering
• Typically 5+ years’ experience in a complex engineering environment (3+ years if part-time degree route)
• Strong background in both analogue and digital electronics
• Experience delivering or leading your own projects (or playing a key technical role)
• Hands-on capability – schematic capture, design, build and test (not purely theoretical)
• Strong documentation discipline and experience following structured engineering processes
• Ability to think independently and work with a systems-level mindset
Desirable Experience
• Power electronics
• Electrical safety knowledge
• Experience within defence or similarly regulated industries (consumer or other complex sectors also considered)
• Experience working on larger integrated systems
(RF experience is not required.)
What’s On Offer
• Flexible working hours (Core hours: Mon–Thurs 10am–3pm, Fri 10am–1pm)
• Hybrid working (2–3 days onsite)
• Travel expenses and accommodation covered where required
• Clear progression pathway:
- Senior 1 ? Senior 2 (increased technical leadership)
- Route into line management and progression toward Chief Engineer level
This is an opportunity to work on highly interesting, technically challenging maritime projects that cannot be publicly detailed due to their nature - but which offer genuine engineering depth and impact.
