Crynodeb
A learning support assistant plays a key role in supporting primary pupils of all ages, including those with learning difficulties.
The role involves assisting the class teacher with learning activities, providing one-to-one or small group support, and implementing intervention programmes as part of the school’s universal provision.
The assistant is expected to promote a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that supports pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
Main Responsibilities:
upport primary pupils of all ages in the classroom, including those with learning difficulties
work under the direction of the class teacher to assist with learning and development activities
provide individual or small group support to improve understanding and progress
assist with implementing intervention programmes as part of the school’s universal provision
monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
support pupils’ social and emotional development in a safe and inclusive environment
prepare learning resources and assist with classroom organisation
ensure safeguarding and health and safety policies are followed at all times
Essential Skills and Experience:
experience working with children with additional needs
strong communication skills and a positive attitude
the ability to work effectively as part of a team
flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of the classroom
Desirable:
understanding of the diverse needs of pupils, including those with learning difficulties
experience in providing learning support or interventions (advantageous)
level 2 qualification in Learning Support or equivalent (or willingness to work towards one).
