Crynodeb

We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Tactical Crime Analyst to join the National Environmental

Crime Unit – a dynamic and high-profile part of the Environment Agency.

Environmental crime is a growing threat, drawing attention from the public, media and international

stakeholders. From illegal waste operators to organised crime groups, the risks are real – and so

is our commitment to stopping them.

As a Crime Analyst, you’ll be at the heart of our intelligence-led approach. You’ll develop and

access intelligence from a wide range of sources, producing high-quality analytical products that

directly inform investigations and enforcement action. Your analysis will help us target offenders

causing the greatest threat, risk and harm and protect communities and the environment.

This is a unique opportunity to make a real impact in a fast-moving, nationally significant area of

work. You’ll be part of a team that values professionalism, innovation and collaboration – and you’ll

be supported with training and development to grow your expertise.

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We

welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please clearly

include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

You’ll join our Intelligence & Partnerships team – a collaborative group of intelligence

professionals driving the Environment Agency’s intelligence-led approach. We produce high-

quality National Intelligence Model products that shape strategic, tactical and operational

decisions. Working closely with partners, we bring together diverse expertise to deliver a unified

response to waste crime. Committed to professionalism and impact, we continually refine our approach to ensure our products are timely, relevant and aligned with enforcement needs.

Experience/skills required

Protecting the environment is at the core of our mission—and we’re looking for people who share

our passion for tackling crime to safeguard communities. Experience of working as a Crime

Analyst, or in Intelligence or Law Enforcement is essential for this role. Strong skills in Excel,

Word, PowerPoint, i2 and GIS are also desirable. Your mindset, transferable skills and ability to

build strong relationships matter too.

You’ll handle sensitive information, use intelligence systems confidently, and produce high-quality

analytical products with findings, inferences, intelligence gaps and recommendations that inform

decision-making. Strong communication, attention to detail and self-motivation are also key.

Note that security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required.  To obtain these

clearances, there is a requirement for applicants to have been resident in the UK for 5

years immediately before an application is made.

Note that we are not able to support visa applications for this role.
