This vacancy is for a Consultant Histopathologist to work in friendly, high performing cellular pathology department. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to work as part our well-established consultant team on a permanent basis.
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust currently sits within the top ten hospitals in England for cancer performance and provides breast, bowel and cervical screening services . The team delivers some of the best diagnostic accuracy for breast screening pathology in the UK and Bolton is the first site in Greater Manchester to introduce digital imaging for post mortems in partnership with Digital Autopsy UK.
As part of Greater Manchester Pathology Network we are planning to implement digital pathology reporting.
The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and high quality cellular pathology (Histopathology, Non-gynae cytology & Andrology) diagnostic laboratory service. The appointee will also support the provision of mortuary and post-mortem services.
It is anticipated that the appointee will develop a lead role/special interest for which they will support the relevant MDT, in accordance with the departments requirements. They will participate in a fair and equitable “PUSH” system of work on a daily basis. They will be expected to report all areas of pathology serviced by this department
The appointee will provide clinical advice to colleagues regarding diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic indicators.

The Royal Bolton Hospital is a large district general hospital with approx. 710 inpatient beds and 54-day case and endoscopy beds. The Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is within the North West sector of the health economy along with Salford Royal Hospital and Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust. Bolton is a specialist maternity and paediatric centre for Greater Manchester.

• Take alead role for one or more of the cancer specialist areas, attend MDTs relating to this and provide cover for other areas as required.
• Participate in RCPath CPD activities and maintain compliance with annual minimum credit requirements
• Participate in teaching and training of staff at all grades including medical speciality trainees, students and laboratory staff
• Maintain compliance with annual appraisal and medical revalidation requirements
Clinical Responsibilities
• The appointee will be expected to provide laboratory liaison, expert histological and cytological advice
• Demonstrate extensive use of personal judgement, based on experience and knowledge that may directly affect patient management.
• Share oversight of the processing of specimens in the laboratory, as well as provide reporting and clinical advice with other Consultant colleagues
• Telephone liaison and discussion of individual clinical cases in a timely manner to meet local Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Advice regarding diagnostic tests, interpretation of results, general patient management to clinical teams
• Interpretation and reporting of laboratory test results.
• Supporting mortuary services through the provision of post mortem and digital autopsy reporting.
• Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required, and for contributing to post-graduate and continuing medical education activity, locally, regionally and nationally.
