What will be your primary role?

The primary purpose of this position is to serve within the RAF Lakenheath Operations Flight’s Technical Section, specializing in the field of asset management, as the “Building Control Inspector” for Electrical / HVAC / Structures / Plumbing & Fire for the Base Installation Assessment Team and this position will cover electrical installations / HVAC / facility building (structures) and plumbing / fire suppression within facilities and utilities on the RAF base. You will assist in the management of the utility & facility infrastructure systems at both RAF Lakenheath & RAF Feltwell by carrying out inspections / assessments/ assurance audits of a range of minor to complex construction, maintenance, modification and repair operations; and regularly conduct inventory and assesses condition of water, wastewater, gas, medium temperature hot water, and HVAC systems for a variety of physical facilities and main distribution infrastructure using a computerized sustainment management system. As these utility & facility systems enable the base to function as a military asset and their operation is of vital importance, the incumbent will assess them using their application of professional knowledge and skills in civil / electrical / HVAC / plumbing / structures processes and practices against a set criteria. Acting as the subject matter expert, you will provide detailed asset management knowledge and recommendations for future facility / utility infrastructure projects (as well as opportunities for investment), based upon the assessments of the installed equipment and their condition to the Sub and Activity Management Planners that fall within the relevant asset management field. You will also assist Sub-AMP’s / AMP’s & planners in developing the utility and facility asset / activity management plans, which will include annual work plans for both corrective and preventive maintenance programs.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?

1. Knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures involved in the inspection of building materials, workmanship, utilities, and the installation of systems; and the practical methods and techniques of engineering principles relating to complex construction practices and procedures.
2. Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, water, fuels, and structural aspects of major construction projects and existing facilities.
3. Knowledge of inspection and safety practices and procedures in the construction industry.
4. Knowledge of engineering and architectural plans and specifications to read and interpret construction requirements.
5. Knowledge of construction trades, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

What are the conditions of employment for this role?

1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
5. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid CAT B driver’s license may be required for the position.
7. Your hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week on a fixed schedule Mon-Fri (0800-1630) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization’s flexible working policies


Qualification requirements:

• Specialized experience in the area OR
• A combination of Education and Training HND/HNC/BTEC, City and Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent qualifications in an appropriate discipline (i.e Mechanical, Electrical, Civil engineering), together with a minimum of three year’s work experience in the trade.
OR
• Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements
