They are one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of a wide range of quality products for luxury marine craft and safety products and hardware.

Based across 3 sites in Mid-Wales, they are a medium sized business employing over 100 permanent members of staff.

The company prides itself in the ability to design and manufacture engineering innovative and contemporary products and the use of quality materials.

About the role
The Design Engineer will be instrumental in ensuring delivering innovative and manufacturable design solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and business requirements.

Responsibilities
• Design and develop new products and modify existing ones to meet customer and business requirements.
• Manage design projects from initial enquiry to production release, ensuring all milestones and quality standards are achieved.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using CAD and Epicor systems.
• Design tooling and fixtures (press tools, injection moulds, jigs, and nests) to support efficient manufacturing.
• Ensure designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and compliant with industry standards.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and operations teams to resolve technical issues and improve designs.
• Communicate project progress and design changes to the Design Project Manager and customers.
• Maintain accurate design records, documentation, and version control in line with company procedures.
• Support innovation by evaluating new materials, processes, and design technologies.

Candidate Requirements

Education / Qualifications
• Degree or HND in Mechanical, Product, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• CAD certification (e.g., SolidWorks Professional) desirable.

Experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in product design or mechanical engineering.
• Experience in tooling design and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection moulding, metal pressing).
• Experience managing design projects from concept to production release.

Knowledge
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, tolerancing, and materials.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (preferably Epicor).

Skills / Abilities
• Excellent CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred).
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management abilities.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Other Requirements
• Full UK driving licence preferred.
• Willingness to occasionally visit suppliers or clients.
