Crynodeb
This appointment will be based at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary, one of the largest and most modern tertiary cardiac centres in the UK, serving a population of over 3 million. There are 6 state of the art Cardiac Catheter laboratories, with over 2000 PCIs, including 24/7 primary PCI, over 1000 invasive electrophysiology/cardiac ablations and in excess of 700 implantable device procedures per annum, making the West Yorkshire Heart Centre one of the highest volume units in the UK. The TAVI service is the largest in the UK outside of London. In addition, cardiac MRI, adult congenital cardiology, paediatric cardiology and interventional paediatric cardiology, as well as adult and paediatric cardiac surgical services, all complement each other within the same site. The department consists of 2 inpatient wards (one acute admissions cardiology ward), a day case interventional ward, a day case seated suite, 6 lab catheter suite and a 10 bed CCU. The post is fixed term for one year (starting September 2026), with options to extend if mutually agreed. MEDICAL STAFF IN THE DEPARTMENT 31 Consultants 11 Specialist Registrar (ST 3+) 22 LSTs working across cardiology and cardiac surgery KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Please see Person Specification The candidate should have achieved competency in Electrophysiology in line with their Speciality training programme at a level approaching or having achieved CCT (or equivalent). Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice at the time of application. DUTIES OF THE POST The candidate will be expected to provide supervised input into the care of patients with arrhythmia including those undergoing catheter ablation. The post would be ideally suited to those approaching or having achieved CCT (or equivalent) in cardiology with a subspecialty interest in electrophysiology. The role will include outpatient and inpatient management, catheter ablation procedures and follow up. There will be an expectation to become involved in leading service evolution, governance processes and audit. The successful candidate will also have opportunity to contribute to the departments research and clinical trials programme. A tailored training programme will be negotiated around previous experience, and professional development plans. Whilst there is no formal commitment to out of hours work, there may be opportunities to contribute to gaps on the StR on call rota where appropriate. The applicant should be aware that this will mean only basic salary will be paid. There will be opportunities to take part in the StR on call rota if there are gaps, but this should not interfere with the day to day commitments of the fellowship post. LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY Responsibility will be dependent on prior experience and will be tailored to the successful applicant. It is expected that the levels of responsibility will be that of ST7-8 or above, and the successful candidate will receive supervision from a named consultant with responsibility to develop the individuals training e-portfolio or equivalent. TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING The device fellow will have opportunities to attend local weekly teaching and monthly educational departmental meetings, and will be supported to attend national and international meetings and educational events. The successful applicant will be required to provide teaching for colleagues and trainees, and will be expected to provide evidence of feedback in line with good medical practice guidelines. Training opportunities will be tailored to the successful candidate, taking level of experience and training needs into consideration. The successful candidate will receive extensive training in basic and complex EP procedures. There will be opportunity to gain experience in all simple and complex EP procedures.
